The Baptist church held its annual business meeting and cooperative supper in the social rooms. Rev. Earl Longfellow opened with prayer. Reports showed the church debt free and honored Mrs. Marietta Workman for outstanding service. Officers elected include Woodrow Crone, Robert Nicola, Dorothy Dawson, Marietta Workman, and E H Messer for three year terms.

Washington High welcomed bands from Bartieta Mt Pleasant and Ma catine for a day of rehearsals and a concert by a select group at the four schools. Tickets go on sale at the door. Individual and mass numbers before a critic judge and marching were featured in the day.

Mrs. Elnor Ingle Dies at Oakdale Sanitarium
Mrs. Elnor Ingle 738 East Second Street died early Thursday at Oakdale sanitarium after a period as a patient. Born April 6 1919 in Clinton Missouri she was the daughter of Charles and Esta Benson. She married Elner Ingle Dee 14 1945 and is survived by her husband two children Patricia and Terry her parents five brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements are pending at Sherman’s funeral home with relatives distant.

Fortnightly Group Improves Memorial Drive At Cemetery

Open Season for More Fish in Iowa Begins Monday May 15
The Iowa Conservation Commission announced that several fish species will be opened for taking starting Monday May 15 including northern pike perch walleye sauger white and silver bass and yellow bass. Game fish nesting opening is June 1. Winter kill losses were minor overall with some shallow northwest lakes hit hard by carp and bullheads. Mud Lake in Emmet County was renamed Ingham Lake in honor of Capt William H Ingham.

Two American Fliers Released From China
Two U S airmen William Smith of Long Beach California and Elmer Bender of Cincinnati and Chicago were released by Chinese communists after 19 months in custody. They departed from Tsingtao aboard the Hunan and reached Hong Kong aboard a British steamer. The men were captured October 19 1948 while on an L 3 reconnaissance flight near Tsingtao.
