Herman Rohrer aged seventy killed August Lass aged fifty after a quarrel over plowing two miles south of North Branch Iowa. Rohrer fired on Lass set fire to clothing, then shot himself. Bodies found a few yards apart in a recently plowed field. Both men were prosperous farmers sharing a home with their families.

In Eau Claire Wisconsin on May 11 George Hall aged 21 R H Sweet 45 Sweet's wife and four children drowned when Hall’s gasoline launch capsized midstream after hitting sunken piling. No witness to capsize. William McLaughlin heard cries and saw victims clinging to the overturned craft as the current carried them downstream. The boat was later found on a sandbar a half mile downstream and the river was dragged but the bodies were not recovered.

Army balloon explodes on landing over 100 mile flight
Army balloon No. 12 ascended from Fort Omaha and landed at Jackson Nebraska after more than 100 miles in six and a half hours.
