U S Submarine Triton Circles World In 84 Day Underwater Voyage
The nuclear powered submarine Triton completed an 84 day submerged circumnavigation, covering about 36000 miles. Commanding officer Capt Edward L Beach received the Legion of Merit from President Eisenhower after the voyage begun Feb 16 off Montauk Point and ending near Rehoboth Beach with one emergency surfacing to transfer a sick crewman.
