To Jail for Giving Beer to Indian at Tama
Federal Judge Henry Graven sentenced Emery Rupp and Bert Plaine to six months in prison for buying and delivering a case of beer to Dixon Keahna, an Tama Indian. Keahna drove the car in which Edlund Walker Elsie Benson and Vernon Lasley were killed or injured when it overturned April 21. Rupp will receive care in a Springfield Missouri hospital for a chronic nervous disorder if needed. The judge said punishment was necessary as five Tama Indians died recently from liquor and the tribe is being ruined by it.
