May 7 dispatches report Gen Foch objecting to the safety of occupied positions and warning 15 year limits are insufficient. Chinese and Portuguese delegates lodge formal protests over Kinochan and treatment, while Wilson pushes for an open press and broader representation at the Versailles signing ceremony.
President Wilson urged intercession with conference officials to include China among attendees for the treaty presentation. Nearly 300000 acres in the Chugech national forest area of Alaska are excluded by a presidential proclamation and will be open to homestead entry after July 9 and to settlement after July 16. Excluded zones run along the Knik Turnagain Arm near Anchorage and along Cook Inlet and Kachemak Bay.

Berlin police and soldiers clashed with gunmen during a raid on a stolen goods sale. Four officers were wounded and a civilian was killed as the crowd opened fire. Police captured several salesmen possessing a thousand illegal food cards and large amounts of stolen property. Mobs attempting to free the prisoners were driven off.
