American forces in the Luneville sector repel German advances and wipe rear areas from their lines after successful artillery actions. Reports describe German gas shells, enemy patrol attempts, and two German planes shot down as the front tightens along the French border.

New York May 6 Charles C Sargent hosted 112 of the French Blue Devils at a Park Avenue hotel dinner. His son in law Ripley Hitchcock, editor and critic, arranged the affair and welcomed the guests. Hitchcock suddenly suffered heart disease as the guests sat down.
A brief welcome note from a son in law preceded the discovery that Ripley Hitchcock died at the start of a dinner. Mr. Hitch cock died in the next room and guests remained unaware until after soldiers departed. Mr. Sargent later remarked the dinner was fine and asked for Ripley.
German airplanes raided Dutch fishing boats in the North Sea. Five fishermen survived after their unarmed ship was showered with machine-gun fire from four airmen for two hours. They rowed 60 miles to reach a British vessel and were rescued. the damaged boat was towed to harbor by a destroyer.
Ensign Spencer T. Alden of Fort Wayne Indiana was killed when a naval hydroplane they operated side slipped from about 00 feet and plunged into South Bay near Fire Island Inlet. Philip F. Mooser of Boston, a student aviator, was seriously injured and rescued within minutes, revived by a navy launch using a pul motor.
Plans endorsed for a 30 acre American village at Pian to house 2000 Ve netian refugees. The project includes a church a school and a hospital and will be built by the American Red Cross.
Washington May 6 Senate approves conference report on a wartime sedition bill amending the espionage act. An airship of the Royal Navy engaged marching enemy forces beyond the Tagliamento. The action reportedly destroyed eight enemy machines, two of them burning within our lines.

Ottawa May 6 Canada lowers the military service registration age from twenty to nineteen. A proclamation calling all nineteen year olds to enroll will be issued shortly with registration slated before June 1, though no one will be called to service before July.
