Nine North Iowa Community College students claim the world beer keg rolling title by rolling a keg 100 miles from Mason City to Ames in 24 hours. They beat Webster City juniors who covered about 50 miles to Ames last weekend.
Des Moines IDPA reports lawmakers doubt Governor Robert Ray can veto the student riot section of the Senate appropriations bill for the state university system. Ray suggested he might strike the campus riot provision tied to a $91 million annual appropriation. Legislators argue item veto limits apply only to money, not policy riders, citing precedent from other states.
Two masked gunmen robbed Bostrom's Super Market in West Union Iowa wounding owner Carl Bostrom 62 in the arm as he tried for help. One gunman remained in the home while the other looted the store then fled with the partner in a stolen car.

The Nixon administration will continue more than 1 million dollars in annual federal aid to Antioch College despite a director claiming the Afro-American Studies Institute is only relevant to black students. Panetta noted no white applicants and some black students denied admission on relevance grounds, preventing a finding of discrimination.
