Washington introduces a new dump schedule to improve public service and curb roadside dumping. Mayor W. Dupuis announced the dump will be open daily with revised hours and Sunday access from 1 to 12 a.m. The city urges proper disposal, noting a $1 monthly service for residents and stressing enforcement for illegal dumping.
Mrs KR S Sharman served as assistant hostess at the Chapter 1 PEO luncheon on Thursday. Friday's society note misstated the name as Mrs Shannons instead of Mrs Sherman.
Funeral services for William Edward Methes are set for Monday at 2 PM at Peterseim & Sons funeral home in Kalona. He died Friday in Washington after an illness and had lived much of his life in Richmond. Survivors include a sister Mrs Saforek of Richmod and a brother S Methree of Laws City.
A Montezuma fire destroyed a blacksmith shop and damaged a feed store with estimated losses around 30 000 dollars. Chief Richard Bowers said the fire smoldered hours before alarm. Firefighters from Deep River Malcolm and Grinnell contained the blaze.
Sunday services will begin at six o clock instead of eight seventy as announced. Rev Pau J Hindman will deliver the sermon Return unto thine own house and show what great things God hath done for thee.
Mineral services for Clarence A Booth 44 of Ainsworth are set for Monday at 2 PM in Washington Presbyterian Church with Dr William J Grossheim officiating. Burial will follow in Ainsworth Cemetery. He died in a tractor accident Friday near Pleasant Hill school. He was born October 16 1907 in Prairie Flower community and lived most of his life in the county as a farmer. He married Mars Henderson at Ainsworth and was an elder and Sunday school superintendent in the Presbyterian Church. He also directed the Washington County Park Bureau and was active in its affairs. Survivors include his wife three children Eugene Carol and Richard and his parents Mr and Mrs Bert Booth of Washington. Jones Funeral Home handles arrangements.
Police vice squad raided the Moose Lodge and the Elks Club in Des Moines arresting two bartenders on liquor charges. Joseph J. Scott, 25, and Irrank T. McElheny, 58, pleaded innocent before Judge Charles S. Cooter and posted $500 bonds for hearings May 16. Officers said they found whisky being poured and multiple bottles under the bar during the raids.
The Washington County Hobby Show judged this year, with exhibits remaining on display at the YMCA until tomorrow. Judges awarded dozens of blue red and white ribbons across many classes, honoring exhibitors such as Dick Boettcher Ruth Ann Brown Jack Salladay Wilma Hughes and many others.
El Paso report says Air Force offers to release 20 year old Goodwin from prison two year sentence for refusing a flight to England. He will resign and take an under conditions other than honorable discharge under retroactive policy urged by Air Secretary Pinletter.

Born in Washington county in 1880 she later moved to Kansas City 34 years ago. Survivors include daughter Mrs. Alice Keefer of Illinois and son Richard W. Groendyke of Lake Charles La.
Municipal band members will practice at City Hall Monday night in prep for the annual Music Week concert in Central Park Wednesday evening. Members were informed of the rehearsal night change from Thursday to Monday.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower met with John Foster Dulles in Paris for over two hours to discuss foreign policy focusing on the Far East. They explored Korea, Formosa, and the Chinese Nationalist government as part of the session. Dulles said the talk covered international questions and that no domestic policy was discussed.

Graveside rites are set for Sunday at Elm Grove cemetery for Charles McCreedy who died Friday in Sigourney after services at the Sigourney Methodist church. He was the son of George A. and Ellen McCreedy and lived in the Ainsworth area. Survivors include his daughter Mrs. KR. GG. Yoder wife of District Court Judge Yoder one granddaughter and two sisters Effie McCreedy and Mrs. Charles Nash both of Ainsworth. His wife Birdie Benn preceded him in death.
