One Johnson county rationing board member was removed and another resigned after a clash with Walter D. Kline acting Des Moines district OPA director. C R McCann was labeled an active opponent of price administration, and J W Anderson quit the county gasoline panel.
The senior class presents The Road to Niagara in the high school auditorium Friday at eight o’clock. Cast includes Bob Ros as Lettie and Phyllis Brown with Lola Mace as Mrs Shute. other players are Jo Ston, Hal Long, Millard De Lashmutt and Frances Taik in supporting roles. Tickets go on sale at Phillips and Hebner drug store.
The local office, now a United States Employment Service unit of the War Manpower Commission, logged 33 replacements in April. Most replacements were for essential work with 3 on the Alaska highway. The office recorded 268 contacts, 69 referrals, 64 job applications, 69 statements of availability, and 155 external contacts with employers and schools. The manager is often out visiting towns, advising visitors to come in mornings or to phone for appointments. Demand rises for essential Pacific Northwest work. workers should avoid leaving the area without clearance or referrals to prevent delays.
Washington D C May 3 price administrator Chester Bowles ordered all meat except beef steaks and roasts removed from rationing effective at midnight. Pork veal lamb and mutton become point free along with variety meats sausage and canned fish. Red point allotments for each cut drop from 60 to 30 starting May 7.
London reports Allied bombing cripples rail yards from Cologne to the Bay of Biscay threatening German reserve movement. Berlin asserts no peace compromise and confirms a major shift of troops from the Russian front to western Europe as invasion approaches.

DES MOINES Iowa State College revised Pamphlet No 5 on dairying in wartime avoids direct comparison of oleomargarine and butter. The original study was withdrawn after protests by the Iowa State Dairy Association which objected to claims that oleomargarine compares favorably in nutritive value and palatability. The revision notes fortified oleomargarine as a tasty acceptable spread for many consumers.
Des Moines Iowa will receive 4.899 tons of oilseed meal for direct farmer distribution during May and 424000 bushels of feed wheat as part of a 20 percent processor set aside. Allocation to counties by the state AAA committee will reflect livestock numbers available protein and feed supplies.
Kenneth Worden age 27 of Waterloo Iowa and Karl Kear Kantor age 26 of Cedar Rapids were removed by U S marshals from Dubuque county jail to the Sandstone Minnesota federal reformatory. They were sentenced last week by Federal Judge Henry Craven for refusal to report for induction. They are avowed Jehovah's Witnesses. Warden Herses was sentenced to five years and Kantor to four.
The Fortnightly club music department sponsors National Music Week May 7 to 13 in Washington. Mrs George Masson chairs, with church choirs presenting numbers on Sunday and High School pupils performing Tuesday in the auditorium under Directors Manda Davies and Ralph W Young. Doris Gray and Edith Gillespie key recitals at Iowa City, Mrs Boyd White accompanies. The Municipal Band led by Ralph Young will close with a Central Park concert Saturday evening.
Judge P J Siegers granted three divorces in Washington County District Court yesterday. Edna Mae McClure was divorced from Elmer Earl McClure with custody of two minor children and child support. Beulah Glider was divorced from Keith H Glider with custody of two young children and support payments. Earl Gesling was granted divorce from Mabel Gesling with custody of four children. Judge Siegers plans another court day next Monday and excused jurors for the March term.
A report notes that about 70,000 electric lights illuminate the Penatlon War Department building, highlighting the scale of illumination and the building's prominence in daily operations.
Ottumwa operator Sam Cito of the Truckers and Rail Roaders restaurant paid 150 dollars after pleading before Police Judge Gene Swenson to two charges stemming from a raid Sunday night. Police said they found two numbers jars and some liquor. Names listed include Stewart, Ralph Schil, Griff, Boileau, Stan Jauss.

Civil Air Patrol Cadets met at city hall for map reading and navigation instruction led by CAP navigator R. E. Arthur. They practiced parade marching and were drilled by their command at the regular meeting last night.
George J. Lott of the National Labor Relations Board refused to delay the Montgomery Ward Chicago plant bargaining election despite a union request. A Washington order set the election within seven days to determine if the union has majority support among Ward's Chicago employees.
