London May 3 The British government inquiry into the Titanic disaster began at the London Scottish drill hall Westminster Lord Hersey presiding with an expansive remit to probe regulatory failures and responsibility of the board of trade The panel includes Rear Admiral Somerset Prof J M Bliss and several officials and counsel from White Star Line Canadian Pacific Allan ships and government offices The hall held 300 but few spectators with a 20 foot Titanic model and large charts on display guiding the proceedings.

Post Office Appropriation Bill Advances With Experimental Parcels Post
Washington May 3 The house passed a 260 million post office appropriation bill for the next fiscal year by 227 to 5 no roll call on the main vote. It includes an experimental rural parcels post and a temporary general route parcels post with initial rates and 11 pound limit. The measure also adds toll funded good roads aid and requires newspaper owners to publish stockholders names, and ends the gag rule while mandating steel cars for railway mail service after July 1, 1917.
