Buffalo civic leaders announce the Pan-American Exposition will open Sunday from 1 p m to 11 p m with mid way attractions closed for 24 hours. Ministers and other opponents plan legal action to shut the fair, while midway concessionaires seek to operate on Sunday under contract terms.
Milwaukee May 8 The Sentinel reports a deal of considerable importance to the city of Merrill was acclaimed in Milwaukee Wednesday by prominent officials and business leaders.
A large sale to a Milwaukee Chicago syndicate known as the Newton Paper company disposes of the water power, street railway, and electric light plant for 125000. The street line will pass to Thomas Frauley of Eau Claire to fund an 18 mile Merrill to Wausaw link. The paper mill is planned for Merrill. May 4.
In Lincoln on May 3 W. J. Bryan attacks Senator McLaurin of South Carolina as politically flop while acknowledging his move signals a southern trend likely to influence national politics. In Milwaukee on May 3 and May 8 reports show bond sales and a Montana rancher searching for his long-lost mother.
Northwestern road executives arrived by special train to review Fond du Lac property and plan a division tour. The project includes a large round-house for twenty five engines and yard tracks for 150 cars on the site. Ten year old Clara Bickmeier, adopted daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl Hickmeier of Chicago, is reported missing and feared kidnapped.
A national conference of window glass interests led to nearly all U S factories to close May 11 and grant a 15 percent wage increase. The move affects about 2 750 glass blowers and 15 000 other employees though some cooperative plants may refuse to abide.
Chicago reports bright prospects for a peaceful settlement between Illinois Central railway and its machinists as concessions are accepted and international officers plan further talks. The key issue is length of the working day with ten hours the company position.
