Reports indicate the United States fleet is actively bombarding the port of Manila with successful strikes. Naval units press the bombardment amid strategic assaults and heavy gunfire.

The two fleets at Manila included US ships Olympia a first class protected cruiser with 21 knot speed and heavy guns, Baltimore a second class cruiser at 20.6 knots with 8 inch and 6 inch rifles, Boston a second class cruiser at 15 knots with 6 inch guns, Raleigh a second class at 19 knots with 6 inch and 5 inch rifles, and Concord a third class at 17 knots with its battery.

In Anderson Indiana on May 2 Charles Connors killed himself to “free” his wife from stain amid an Enoch Arden like case. The wife, long married to Connors, learned her first husband alive after ten years and the mutual scandal led Connors to poison himself rather than face bigamy. The wife is prostrated and unlikely to return to her first husband.
Reported ambush at a mine site leaves several workers under fire. One miner is fatally wounded as others duck for cover and authorities investigate the attack location and motive. Police and security forces cordon the area.
