About 200 honey bees escaped a portable hive in the basement of the New York General Post Office on Monday and disrupted mail operations for about 15 minutes before being felled by a DDT bomb.
Western diplo mats said the West may strike a deal if the Soviet plan drops a demand to photograph two thirds of the United States for Siberia air photos. Zorin proposed zones cover two thirds of the US and Alaska, one third of Russia, sparking Western skepticism but potential compromise via future talks.

Final rites for Charles O. Gambell age 82 will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Stacy Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. Rev. Edwin D. Emmet of the Columbus City United Presbyterian Church will officiate with burial in Winfield Cemetery. Gambell died Tuesday at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.
Washington's Y's Men offered a preview of the annual home talent play Har vey to be staged at Washington High School on May 8 9 and 10. Cast members performed a skit from the play at the club meeting and joined a dinner prior to the program. Tickets go on sale at Osincup's Drug Store on Saturday May 4. Doug Runnells Sheaffer Pen Co. central sales manager spoke at the event.
Gov. Herschel C. Loveless stated that reapportionment depends on a constitutional convention possibly called by Iowa voters. He may form a promotion committee to educate and mobilize civic groups about a constitutional convention as the 1960 ballot issue approaches.
President Eisenhower may deliver a nationwide broadcast to present his view on the budget and foreign aid clash. Senate Republican Leader William F. In Keokuk Iowa a tug named Hawkeye captained by Thomas Lumm moved through the new 132 million dollar Lock No 19 with 12 barges of coal. The unscheduled test carried out during final lock tests cut time from five hours to under an hour.
Dr. Elizabeth Kennedy of Oelwein named outstanding general practitioner of 1957 by the Iowa State Medical Society. First woman to win the award, she has over 50 years as a physician, once city health officer, and practiced from her home with four children, two daughters physicians, and a son.
In Logan Utah a 14 foot hand carved statue of Paul Bunyan was beheaded by an unknown person or persons possibly from a rival engineering class. Utah State University forestry students responded with rapid tree surgery techniques at the scene.
