Committee Probes Naval Reserve Lease in California Field
The Senate oil committee heard Assistant Secretary Finney state that a search failed to show presidential approval for a lease covering over 3 000 acres in Naval Reserve No 2 California to Honolulu Oil Company. The lease was invalid because Fall had no authority to approve it, with most of Reserve No 2 leased since Work took office. Royalties on leases after Fall’s resignation ranged from 61 to 50 percent, higher than Fall’s terms. The hearing recessed until May 8.
