Eighteen delegates vote Taft and eighteen Roosevelt from the district. Roosevelt wins delegates at large and ten district delegates, marking one of the most spectacular primary campaigns.
Early returns from 1076 of 1080 precincts indicate Taft leading Roosevelt 74,808 to 70,203 with Clark ahead of Wilson by a large margin. Roosevelt carried congression al districts and won most town tallies. Clark led in Hull and certain cities while Taft and Roosevelt traded gains in Boston and surrounding towns.
Delegates from across the union attend the Methodist Episcopal general conference in Minneapolis with many foreign bishops and fraternal delegates. The gathering spans four weeks with noon meetings, evangelistic sessions, and lectures by Dr. Cadman Bishop Quayle Matt S Hughes and William J Bryan plus formal events in the evenings.

Wytheville Virginia May 1 Floyd Allen a leader of the Hillsville clan is on trial for the murder of Commonwealth's Attorney Foster. Indicted for five murders the prosecution chooses this count first. The day focused on summoning venire and witnesses with more than 200 expected, and a venue change may be sought due to Carroll County delays.
Dover May 1 The Democratic state convention named six delegates to the national convention at Baltimore two each from New Castle Sussex and Kent counties The New Castle and Sussex selections back Gov Woodrow Wilson The Kent county choice was not made by Wilson leaders but the two delegates favor Wilson.
Bruce Ismay was summoned to testify before a commissioner in admiralty court in New York in a suit by Mrs. Louise Robins of New York against the White Star Line. The action seeks recovery for the loss of her husband George Robins in the Titanic disaster. Subpoenas were issued for surviving Titanic officers.
In Gilbert Louisiana on May 1 a cyclone demolished the Boeuff Prairie home killing ten year old Sidney Ross and seriously injuring his sister Ada Ross. Their father George Ross was fatally hurt and another man was seriously injured as several houses were destroyed.
Caracas May 1 the Venezuelan cabinet submitted their resignations to the president. The exact cause remains unclear but the directors of the affected ministries have assumed temporary control of department operations.
The main building at Morningside College in Sioux City Iowa was totally destroyed by fire on May 1 with a loss of 200000 dollars. Only the outer walls remain as firemen struggled with poor water pressure.
President Taft travels to Savannah for a postponed St Patrick Day address tonight then to Augusta for memorial services at Major Butt's former home. He returns to Washington Friday night and plans a brief Maryland campaign stop next day. In Texarkana storms kill two and seriously injure ten others with two more severely hurt.

He admitted supporting more lifeboats and said ships must be equipped to carry all passengers even if it requires fewer passengers aboard.
In Guanajuato Mexico on May 1 rebels estimated at about 100 attacked the jail at Rapulo twenty one miles from the city but were repulsed by rural guards and volunteers. The two hour fight left ten insurgents dead and several wounded. The garrison suffered one dead and one wounded.

The Mackay Bennett docked in Halifax with Titanic victims. Captain Launder described 190 bodies aboard, 116 buried at sea. Colonel John Jacob Astor’s body identified with $2500 found in his pockets. Widener’s body possibly his valet was buried at sea.
