Grain Food For Chicks Provides Costly Yet Flexible Options

Oscar Erf of Kansas advises on chick nutrition stressing oats as best but impractical in mills. Hulled oats or rolled oats work, but bulk purchases beat packages. Cracked corn, flax meal, kaffir corn, wheat, cowpeas offer affordable alternatives. Farmers with mills should mix grains rather than rely on one. Whole corn and later whole wheat can substitute early on to curb costs.
