Charlotte Wolf of LaCrosse Wisconsin aged 74 confessed she burned her house and money to prevent relatives profiting from her death. She sought a tree to hang herself but relatives intervened and she was adjudged insane and sent to an asylum.
Charles Fox admits starting a basement fire at the Whipple residence in St Joseph causing $5,000 in damage. He said the act was done for fun after joking with a friend. Fox, previously jailed in Michigan for horse theft, had no grievances with the Whipple family.
