St Joseph Michigan March 30 Fred R Burke arraigned on murder charge in the Skelly case and demanded a preliminary examination set for April 8. Burke remanded to jail without bond as heavy guards held him awaiting trial and transfer to state prison. A farmer father of Patrolman Skelly volunteered to help guard Burke. Burke’s capture involved an armored car caravan and a guarded transfer to St Joseph.

Funeral services for Earl E Phillips Tuesday at 2 30
Earl Ern est Phillips 34 died of pneumonia at Washington county hospital last night after a week of illness. He worked for Iowa Southern Utilities and is survived by his widow a stepdaughter two sisters in Illinois. A World War I veteran, he was born April 24 1896 in Armstrong Iowa. He lived in Des Moines in 1928 and married Kate Cooley Rosa in Omaha on June 27 1928. The couple resided in Des Moines before moving to Cleves and later Decatur Illinois, then Des Moines again four years ago.

President Hoover Leaves Wheat Policy to Farm Board
President Hoover will let the farm board work out problems from wheat and other agricultural issues without his interference.
