The First United Presbyterians held a congregational meeting to discuss remodeling and repairs. Four thousand one hundred dollars was subscribed, work to begin immediately with major changes including pulpit relocation, new seating, entrances, and frescoing to create a near new church.
Mr. Jackson of the Jackson Pipe Organ Co and Mr. William McCutcheon presented a stone baptismal front to Trinity Chapel. Made of Bedford stone by Washington Monument Co, it stands 3 ft 3 in tall with a square base 1 ft 4 in, a center height of 1 ft, and a top 1 ft 3 in octagonal. The Episcopalians praise the fine workmanship.
A traveling salesman noted Washington county Iowa has grown steadily with a thriving town core. He credited active real estate agents who distribute literature at depots, reinforcing a perception of progress. The Sigourney News urges bold promotion to attract settlers, highlighting a fine school, business rooms, and new courthouse as proof of town vitality.
An eye and ear specialist in Brighton was robbed when a man named Dayton left two overcoats as security for a loan to travel to Bloomfield. The visitor later stole the coats after returning to bed, leaving Dayton in sorrow. In Washington a church social at the First U P church featured games a donkey race prizes and fortunes hidden in gilded egg shells.
