The Lufkin city commission ordered dog licensing, but the next day dog owners went to city hall to buy tags and found none in stock and none for years, leaving enforcement actions in limbo.
The high school prepares H M S Pinafore for Thursday and Friday performances with 33 students in principal and chorus roles. Robert Ferrell directs vocal music, Lois Waite accompanies, and Carleton Bump leads the stage set painted by students. Reserved seats go on sale Wednesday at Phillips Drug Store.
Delbert Eli Atkins twenty four of Muscatine admitted holding up a service station in Muscatine Monday night with his wife and three children in the car. He fled with 115 dollars and a revolver as Burlington police arrested him near Burlington after the family hitchhiked toward Denver.
The Iowa House approved an 82 to 24 vote to meet annually instead of every two years. The plan would keep main sessions in odd years at 75 days, with even years limited to appropriations and emergencies, and imposes 40 day limits for even year terms.
The Atomic Energy Commission detonated its second device in a week at Yucca Flat proving ground near Mount Charleston Nevada. Army troops in foxholes reported no injuries while residents in Idaho and Nevada described a visible flash and distant rumble lasting several minutes.

The Weber family, with 14 children, have several sons already in World War II Korean and current service with Luke RR Weber living near Washington and Wilfred serving aboard the battleship Mississippi in Portsmouth Virginia.
Tommy Dawson a 1 year old boy seven miles southeast of Washington began a series of rabies injections after a skunk bit him on Sunday morning. His mother and father intervened as the skunk turned on them. the animal was sent to a lab and tested positive for rabies. The family warns others of possible further infected animals.
The Washington Recreational Council held its first meeting of the year in the YWCA rooms to plan the tennis season and community recreation. Artemas Brown Francis Mangold and Clinton Stewart were named to a tennis committee to study Lincoln school court improvements and lighting for evening use. A tennis clinic is planned for April to boost interest. Mrs. Robert Day presided and named Dr Max Smith Gene Gorham and Mrs Robert Eastland to a nominating committee. Dr Smith becomes treasurer replacing Ed Mlick who resigned. The group reviewed six years of activity including help for Youth Center Lake Darling Youth Center and softball initiation.
Iowa Southern Utilities Co. announces Joseph C. Green, previously assistant district superintendent, as Leon District manager. He began as an apprentice lineman at Columbus Junction in 1940, served as a captain in the Signal Corps returning in 1946, then moved to Keota before becoming assistant district superintendent in 1951. His wife and two children remain in Washington while housing is arranged.

Coal operators planted over 4,000,000 trees and shrubs on about 4,000 acres of surface mines in Pennsylvania in 1951. The Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters planted more than a million trees on roughly 500 affected acres.

Washington County Firemen’s Association met at the Kalona gymnasium on Monday March 16. Chief Maynard Brown of Washington was elected picnic committee chairman. Officers chosen February 16 were President Charles Milice, Vice President C. C. Shimon, Secretary Treasurer Harold D. Kenpf. A light lunch followed. next meeting slated for April 20 at the Washington Fire Department.
Eleven young men depart Washington by bus for armed forces induction in Des Moines. Named include Carl Junior White of Ainsworth George Pratt Davison James Gingerich Clifford Joseph Shalla David Eugene Booth Clayvee Arlan Neis Merle Melvin Clark Cletus Joseph Waldschmid Leonard Llewellyn and Robert Bell. Llewellyn and Bell are Van Buren and Scott county registrants transferred here for induction.
