The Senate’s committee bill creating a state department of agriculture moves to final House action Monday. The Senate also passes several minor measures including extensions of the Cosson removal law to appointive offices and penalties for jail breaks, plus a Cedar Rapids and Waterloo bond measure for riverfront improvements.
Captain Robert H. Trombly aged 63, a veteran Mississippi river pilot and captain, wandered from a hospital where he sought treatment for a nervous breakdown and was found dead in the Mississippi River after his body became jammed in an ice gorge. Railroad workers recovered the body.
A large oil fire erupts in Ponco City Oklahoma with about six thousand barrels of oil burning in tanks of seventeen thousand five hundred barrel capacity. The blaze threatens Osage oil fields as smoke darkens the sky twenty miles away. Attempts to halt the flow to tanks have failed. the cause of the blaze is unknown.

A seven story elevator fall at the Randolph Hotel in Des Moines injures six others and claims the life of Mrs. Harry W. Hill of Earlham. The Hill family and others from Earlham were aboard en route to California. Chief Hammond leads the investigation with assistance from Robert Atkins. Injured include Harry W. Hill, nine year old Mary Hill, Mrs. R. G. Haskins and her four daughters Helen Rose Lucille Esther.
In Marion Illinois the trial of Hugh Willis a Herrin riot defendant and three co defendants charged with the murder of Antonio Muleazich at Erie Pennsylvania will resume Monday. The adjournment yesterday left the state to present two more witnesses before resting its case.
