Three Thousand See New Bank Building

Washington State bank officials estimate 6000 visited the new bank during Thursday open house. Guests toured the building, received favors, and viewed 48 floral bouquets from banks and individuals including one from New York City. Messages and a display of gold coins and currency belonging to Carleton C. Wilson and Arthur Swift were shown. Senator Carl T. Anderson of Wellman was in Washington on business.

Free Golf Lessons Start Saturday At YMCA

Charles Wiele of the Washington Golf and Country club invites boys and girls aged 12 to 14 to start free golf lessons this Saturday at 2 pm at the YMCA. No equipment needed. A series of lessons is planned and adults may join a series starting Monday evening.

Mrs Bartow Wins Radio Cash Prize in Des Moines

Mrs I K Bartow learned this afternoon that she won the 102 dollar prize in the Campbell's Soup Double or Nothing sweepstakes. The prize was one half of the amount available to contestants answering the radio program question broadcast by WHO Des Moines.

Hartzler Arrested for Forgery Held Then Released

Peter Hartzler was arrested at Cherokee by the sheriff on forgery charges and held in the county jail Thursday. He was released today after settling the charges.

Sen Charlies W Tobey says the senate will be asked next week to extend the life of the senate crime committee for at least 60 days. Sen Alexander Wiley backs continuation as well. Tobey favors an indefinite extension but notes 60 days would help near cleaning up rotten spots.

Winter Pays Return Visit To Iowans

Des Moines reports a heavy winter storm hitting Iowa for the third weekend with blizzard conditions in the north. Snow and freezing rain create slick highways, with Highway 5 blocked at Remsen and visibility near zero in some northern areas. The Weather Bureau expects clearing and colder weather tonight and sunny Friday in the northwest.

Methodist Choir Plans Special Concert Tonight

The 50 voice Methodist Choir will present Stainer The Crucifixion tonight at o o'clock in the church under the direction of Robert Jerret. A noon adults service featured Dr. Raymond Reed speaking on the Seven Last Words. Afternoon activities included a crucifixion story by church youth with readers and singers.

Truck Driver Injured In West Chester Curve

George Hart of 910 Pennsylvania Ave Des Moines was taken to Washington County Hospital after his semi truck left the road and overturned on a curve on Highway 92 east of West Chester at about 7 in the morning. The B. L. Robinson & Co. of Burlington filed a petition in district court asking damages of 461.85 from German Electric Service of Washington. The suit claims this amount is due for merchandise delivered in recent months.

Nicholas Interested In Governor's Post

Des Moines Lt. Gov. William H. Nicholas said he would be interested in running for governor in 1952 if the opportunity arises and circumstances look right. He also would like another term as lieutenant governor to show he can do a good job. He noted that circumstances will influence his choice between governor and lieutenant governor.
