OAS challenges French forces amid Algerian flash strikes
In Algiers and Oran the OAS pressed a challenge to French security forces as European workers staged strikes. Water and air travel were halted in Algiers while Oran saw a two hour general strike mourning Wednesday’s clashes. Casualties rose with eight dead and four wounded by afternoon rails.

Comedy of Errors With Cars in Mud on Highway 1
A late model car driven by Mrs Pat Fedderson veered off Highway 1 into a flooded area south of Crooked Creek bridge. A wrecker and a Journal photographer got stuck in mud until an unidentified farmer with a pickup and chain pulled them out. no injuries and minor car damage.

Dinner for Pearson relatives and funeral in Ainsworth
A dinner will be served in the basement of the Methodist Church on Saturday for the family of the late Daryl Pearson. The American Legion Auxiliary will furnish meat and potatoes and others may bring food. Funeral services for Daryl Pearson will be held at 2 PM Saturday in the Ainsworth School gymnasium, with burial in Ainsworth cemetery. The two story home burned Tuesday night and Pearson, 37, died of smoke inhalation amid efforts to save lives and property.
