About 1,000 student demonstrators clashed with helmeted police using clubs and tear gas after marching on Premier John M Chang’s residence. Earlier, 1,500 students near the national assembly sparked a first melee, injuring several and leading to multiple arrests as protests spread over anti Communist and demonstration-control measures.
Douglas W. Johnson, 50, a Los Angeles janitor, returned a Brinks money bag containing 240000 in unmarked bills. He accepted a 10000 cash reward to aid his three sons and to buy a home, instead of a steady guard job and college scholarship for his eldest. Johnson cited fairness to all three sons as a key factor.
Mrs. Clark G. Tucker, 74, of Brighton, died at 4 am in Washington County Hospital. Funeral services set for 1:30 pm Friday March 24 1961 at Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Virgil Blosser. burial Cottonwood Cemetery. Survived by three children, 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren. she was born Hattie Ellen Yeomen June 24 1886 in Tallevyrand.

In London six defendants were tried for spying for Russia by stealing naval secrets at a NATO war planning base. Peter Kroger and his wife Helen were among the trio of Americans. others include Ethel Gee and Henry Houghton at Portland. Gordon Lonsdale held a Canadian passport. The jury found Lonsdale Gee and Houghton guilty. the Krogers faced a complex conspired verdict. Sentencing ranged up to 14 years per Official Secrets Act.
Jean Rinner of Washington High School is among 220 seniors notified they will be eligible for honors status when enrolling at the State University of Iowa in September. Honors students must maintain a B average and are paired with a faculty sponsor.

The gathering also marks the start of dock building work sessions for Lake Darling and plans are set for a handicapped trap shoot on March 26 plus a children’s fishing day tentative for May 14 or 15.

An anti Castro bombing in Havana killed two people who were burned alive in a car in Vedado. The attack followed news that the pro Castro teachers union urged the Education Ministry to end private schools and convert them into cooperative schools funded by the ministry and parents before eventual government takeover.
