Boston reports Charles F Berry trustee of several estates totaling about 500000 has vanished. His tangled accounts baffle experts. The supreme court appointed James D Colt as receiver and conservator to manage Berry’s property and related estates, with Berry said to have gone to Chicago.
Colt stated that 500000 was a conservative estimate of funds tied to the disappearance of Mr Berry. Much of Berry's money was invested in real estate and not easily converted to cash. He added that steps have been taken to recover what remains. Berry, about 50, last lived in Dorchester and was last heard from in Chicago.
Paris reports General Antonio Belutini as Castro’s fiscal agent authorized to sign a contract with German and British holders of Venezuelan bonds. It pledges 60 percent of customs receipts from Guanta, Vela, Cumana, Ciudad Bolivar, Porto Cabello and Caracas to pay 26 million dollars at 4 percent until creditors receive 80 percent of La Guaira and Porto Cabello customs.
