Sidney's large rodeo adds to its holdings by buying 30 acres from Mrs. A. B. Cook for 200 dollars per acre. The land will provide additional parking space for event attendees.
Thomas E. Dewey, Republican presidential hopeful, will hold a campaign meeting in Des Moines on April 30 during a cross continental tour. His campaign headquarters are in New York City.
Charles Ungs, operator of a Dubuque area gasoline station in Dyersville, was fined $100 and costs after pleading guilty to giving a gasoline discount that was not posted. The charge was filed by agents from the office of State Treasurer W. G. C. Bagley.
Walter Loehr, 23, confessed to stealing a car from his Fort Dodge area employer Im A Heitner. He sold the vehicle in Hawarden before surrendering to police in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, driven by conscience.
DES MOINES The condition of two steel workers injured when they fell 60 feet from a steel elevator tower at the Bankers Life building remained critical. The workers were Glenn Tuft of Indianola and Thomas Tufts, brother of another injured man.
Denison’s J. W. Monaghan, 68, was sentenced to five years in Fort Madison prison by District Judge M. E. Hutchinson after pleading guilty to embezzlement as guardian. Sentence suspended. Monaghan, Crawford county clerk from 1915 to 1922, faced charges filed by Louis Stier of Denison for misappropriating $1,850 belonging to his sister, Katie Stier, for whom he was guardian.
Jefferson Leonard Leo nard. 21. son of Mr and Mrs Leo Leonard. delivery man for Goodrich Market and Square Deal Grocery killed when his motorcycle was struck by a North Western passenger train near the highway maintenance office. He paused for a westbound train then rode into an eastbound train.
Harold Sears announces the formation of Sears Specialties Co to manufacture and market a locally invented wallpaper cleaning machine. The device, patented in 1935 by Caspar and Anthony Keane, kneads and applies cleaner as it moves up and down over wallpaper.
Two unknown men attempted to rob Mrs. Aidon Golding, about 80, a crippled pensioner, in her home here. One man entered her rear quarters armed, while another waited on the front porch, according to Sheriff Ivan Wells of Taylor County.
