On a voyage home, MNO Sherman died aboard the steamer Paris. The incident occurred during the journey with report of natural causes. Family and officials were notified as the vessel continued to its port of call.
John Sherman, longtime public figure, died at sea aboard the Paris while en route from Porto Rico to the United States after a several day illness. The death occurred near Cainamera Cuba, with dispatches filed by a special World correspondent.

New York March 21 Mrs Martha Place the first woman to die in New York's electric chair was executed at Sing Sing yesterday. She died instantly after two shocks for murdering her stepdaughter Ida M Place with acid and an axe during a jealousy driven spree in their Brooklyn home. Her husband survived injuries and Governor Roosevelt refused clemency saying justice must be done regardless of gender.
Reports from Kingston Jamaica say John Sherman is gravely ill aboard the American steamer Paris bound westward. The Paris with excursionists may meet the U S cruiser Chicago near Santiago de Cuba as of March 21.

Downey of Christian county Illinois pledged peace and Governor Tanner ordered troop withdrawals while Beloit church marked its semi centennial with a sermon reminiscences and a collection of portraits.
