Reseal ends May 31 1963 for 1961 soybeans says official

Agricultural officials tell farmers that crop loan reseals on 1961 soybeans will not extend beyond the May 31 1963 maturity. Prices for soybeans in recent months remain well above 1962 and 1961 loan levels, offering producers a chance to redeem resealed beans and sell at higher market prices. The note cites domestic and export demand and compares with national average support prices. The statement is made by Howard and Lins, chairmen of stabilization and conservation committees.

Three-Tier Tax Bill Clears Iowa House Panel

Bitter floor fight looms as Iowa House Ways and Means Committee sends a threefold tax package to the floor by a 178 vote. The plan seeks 69 million extra yearly state revenue by raising sales and use taxes from 2% to 3%, expanding the base to motel and hotel rentals, increasing personal income tax rates, and raising the corporate tax from 3% to 4%. About half the revenue would fund school aid and reduce local property taxes, with amendments tying funds to a temporary special account and allocating 10% to road use tax. The package targets roughly 105 million dollars yearly for school aid and a $5 million boost for the agricultural land tax credit fund, aiming to cover about one-third of total public school operating costs.
