Hilfman earns Drake University summer music camp award
Greg Hilfman son of Mr and Mrs Leon Hilfman and a Washington High School student has been named recipient of a Fortnightly club music department scholarship for a Drake University Des Moines summer music camp. He has six years of piano study and plays trumpet organ oboe baritone horn mandolin and has appeared in two community musicals. He accompanies the school choir and is in the Hi Fis chamber group. The camp features a rigid schedule and a final concert on the last day with judge Mrs Dorothy Lowell and director Prof Robert Weast. Scholarship committee members were Mrs Wayne Gamon and Mrs Marvin Tweeton.

Four Dead In Marshalltown Nursing Home Fire
A blaze at Shady Lawn Nursing Home three miles east of Marshalltown Iowa killed at least four residents and injured one. Nineteen elderly patients were present including two bedridden. the cause was undetermined though a linen chute was suspected. Firefighters from several towns fought the 2½ story brick veneer structure as walls and roof collapsed. Proprietor Howard Adams was injured and his wife hospitalized.

Flood prevention contracts awarded in Iowa
Flood prevention contracts totaling more than 160000 have been awarded in the last week in Iowa by the U S Army Corps of Engineers Gov Robert D Ray announced today. The contracts aim to prevent spring flood damage and more awards are expected as the corps studies community needs. The largest contract so far is 40000 to raise a levy near Muscatine in the Iowa River Flint Creek Levee district.

Two Arrested in Major Iowa Drug Seizure
West Des Moines police and federal and state narcotics agents seized about $10,000 worth of marijuana hashish stimulants and LSD after two months of investigation. Dennis Robert De Nio 26 and Marilyn Lou Baker 35, both of West Des Moines, were charged with illegal possession of narcotics and stimulants or depressants. Baker bound over to the Polk County Grand Jury on $4,000 bond and De Nio released on $1,000 bond after pleading innocent.
