Los Angeles March 17 Helen Wills Love, convicted slayer, has been in a self induced coma for six days and is sinking toward death. Her pulse is weakening and she has lost ten pounds according to her physician.
Clarence Weldon 44 and wife Virginia 42 quarrelled in Keokuk. Weldon shot Virginia in the jaw and then fatally shot himself as police arrived. Virginia expected to recover. Weldon prognosis poor after the self inflicted wound.
Mrs. Cora Glasgow, matron at the city hall rest room, has been ill with pleurisy for several days and has not been at work. She is a little better today.
Lifer Jack Gaskill seeks release from Fort Madison by lie detector test funded from his war service bonus. Governor Nels J. Kasehel reportedly authorized use of the funds to bring a detector to the penitentiary with board presence, but commuting the sentence is not guaranteed. Gaskill, 36, has been imprisoned since 1924 for the murder of railroad detective James Griffin after denying guilt through multiple hearings.
Fire today destroyed the Caxton Printers plant a large Idaho book publishing facility of international repute in Caldwell. Loss estimated at 500000 dollars. No further details on injuries or cause released.

Curran announced two new staff additions and temporary clerks in Des Moines after Butler’s exit.
Leelie M. Shaw, Iowa District Governor of the International Association of Y's Men clubs, visited the Washington Y's Men last evening for a full meeting. Reports by Dr. W D Dwyer on boys work and Lee Holland on education highlighted year activities, with Scout progress led by R E Arthur and John Lemmon. Leigh Soule announced about 33 dollars in profits from a recent YChug, and a health unit program plus a social dangers film were shown. Leslie Shaw praised the club and noted its cup as “best club in International” among seventeen countries with suggestions to improve.
Laverne Clark of the state tax board said midnights deadline March 31 will likely push Iowa income tax collections well ahead of last year. Returns filed total 1,009,000 dollars from 87,000 returns, up from 621,000 dollars from 26,750 returns at this date a year ago.
Teddy Springman, 160 years old, son of Mrs. Edith Beaty, is at Washington county hospital after a bicycle collision with a car driven by George Weigman near the courthouse corner.
