Allied forces repelled all assaults with no reported breakthroughs during the latest engagements. Commanders credited disciplined defense and coordinated counterstrikes that halted enemy advances on multiple sectors.
Special to Evening Journal reports American and Allied forces repelled Bolshevik attacks along the Dvina Vaga line. Bolshevik casualties tallied at fifty seven while one American was wounded. American troops in a blockhouse fired and wiped out a whole Bolshevik party.
Kansas City reports hurricane speed winds driving hail and rain across Missouri Kansas Oklahoma and Arkansas. Five killed in Porter Oklahoma and about thirty injured as a tornado demolishes over 25 homes. Topeka and Beaver struggle with floods and damaged lines as rail traffic is disrupted across Minnesota Wisconsin and nearby states.
Paris reports that German liners will carry about 35 000 doughboys per westward voyage under a Brussels agreement with Germany to sell food to the Allies. Herbert Hoover notes German infant mortality has tripled, the Germans requesting condensed milk in early shipments.

London dispatch reports acute unrest across Westphalia, a major European industrial region dominated by coal and iron. It notes the British bridgehead east of the Rhine near Cologne is semicircular and about 18 miles in radius, not yet reaching the Rhine province boundary.
A delegation of United States senators and representatives arrived in Panama March 17 to inspect Canal Zone work and review prospective canal and garrison expenditures for the coming fiscal year. Led by Lieut. Col. Chester Harding, the visiting lawmakers will assess projects in the Cover zone and related budget needs.
Paris March 17 The British indicate they will concede to include the League of Nations in the preliminary peace treaty if President Wilson demands it while preferring its inclusion in the final peace agreement. They seek a speedy preliminary pact and propose removing extraneous matters to hasten action. The League would be addressed after preliminaries and then folded into the final pact with possible amendments.
Reports from Shanghai describe clashes across Korea on March 4 tied to the funeral of former Emperor Yi Heul. Thirty killed and forty wounded at Sungshun, with further fatalities at Suheung and Yongdok. Korean girls’ student participation noted. Anju gendarmerie deaths and arrests cited. A Korean National Association appeal to President Wilson seeks independence under a mandate until League of Nations guidance.
Syng man Rhee and Henry Cheung released a public letter from the association in the United States and a second letter to the peace conference. They assert Japan imposed a protectorate over Korea in breach of treaty obligations, misruled the country, exploited its resources, suppressed literature, and supervised religious worship.

Brussels March 17 German delegates have accepted all of Admiral Sir Rouslyn Wemyss naval conditions.

Leo Jogisches editor of the Red Flag and a noted communist leader was shot to death in Moabit prison while resisting guards. A similar killing may have occurred there recently though the victim’s identity is not known. The Freiheit notes Radek's fate, saying he was urged to stop daily walks in the prison yard. Radek remains jailed with no trial date announced, drawing independent calls for action.
At Doberitz a new Siemens-Schuckert biplane is undergoing trials with the aim of breaking the transatlantic record. The design estimates a Berlin to New York flight in 20 hours using a fuel capacity around 150 gallons per tank, with total fuel potentially tripling that, powered by four propellers and engines totaling 15,000 horsepower.
The German national assembly would refuse to approve a peace treaty that adds conditions beyond President Wilsons fourteen points, Erzberger said in a Berlin address reported from Copenhagen.
