Court overrules bid to delay injunction hearings in the Wabash dispute. Labor leaders warn a dissolved injunction could permit strikes by firemen and trainmen to press for higher wages amid a sharp legal battle and aggressive mobilization.
Waterbury March 16 a temporary injunction was issued by Judge Elmer restraining trolley workers and sympathizers from boycotts or acts that interfere with the Connecticut Railway and Lighting Company. The order caps penalties at 10000 and places 25000 on defendants property. Police guard deaths prompt a coroner investigation with $10000 rewards offered for murderers.
Kansas City dispatch reports a head on collision outside Lwicht thirty miles west of Topeka between the Golden State limited and Rock Island west-bound train No. 3. Engineer Love was killed. Express guard O. P. Blood suffered both legs broken, baggageman O. W. Thomas injured, and Engineer Scott seriously hurt.
Fifteen Purdue freshmen were fined in police court for disorderly conduct. Sophomores and freshmen agreed to pay 250 dollars for damage to the hall where the incident occurred. Purdue faculty were to meet today to decide action against participating students.
King Edward warmly welcomed Colonial Secretary Chamberlain at Buckingham Palace after his South Africa tour. The brief audience followed Chamberlain arriving in London with his entourage at Southampton.
At the Union Traction company of Indiana annual meeting final plans for merging with the Indianapolis Northern Traction connect Indianapolis Peru and Logansport. The combined system spans 450 miles of electric interurban track with a $9.6 million capital and stock to be distributed April 4. Officers include McCulloch Matter Van Osdol and Sampson with directors from Indianapolis Marion Munice Philadelphia Cincinnati and Anderson.
Frank C. Andrews former vice president of City Savings bank remains incarcerated in the Jackson state prison for misappropriating funds. Judge Alfred J. Murphy rejected the motion for a new trial based on juror George W. Kock's fitness and other rulings. Attorneys will appeal to the state supreme court.
In Washington on Saturday the senate held a largely closed session as Spooner began the final plea for the Panamax canal treaty. He spoke for five hours before Depew followed. Amendments by Bacon and Morgan favored fortification and armed protection of the canal by the United States and sought practical sovereignty over the canal strip.
Officials including Coroner's Physician Joseph Springer exhumed George Howard's remains at Mount Olivet cemetery to determine whether death three years ago resulted from chloral poisoning or other causes. Stomach and heart samples were sent to Rush Medical College professor Haines for analysis.
Rome reports Cardinal Gotti prefect of the propaganda and Mon signor Veccia secretary of the congregation refused to give evidence in a civil suit in American courts. The suit was brought by Falher Murry former pastor of a Tec-Neh Nebraska church against Right Rev. Thomas Bonacum bishop of Lincoln Nebraska.
Light masked men raided the home of Frank Reichelderfer a wealthy farmer six miles south of Lima Ohio seizing about 1000 dollars. They stayed several hours and cooked their own supper before leaving the scene.
Saturday's inquest into Edwin L. Burdick's death in Buffalo opened with four medical and police witnesses present. Dr. Howes, a medical examiner, and Det. Lund testified while Mrs. Maria Hull and Mrs. Burdick's mother were among the household staff involved. Other named women observed in court but were not called to testify.
Jay Marehtt Alexander McKay once a county court clerk in Ivman County South Dakota is jailed as a fugitive from justice. He is charged with obtaining money under false pretenses at Chamberlain and faces trial in South Dakota. McKay claims he drew $100 checks but says attorney Aut promised $290 in the bank before presentation. He attempted to enlist in the regular army without his bride’s knowledge.
Attorney General Howlin reports that the Illinois constitution prohibits Lieutenant Governor Northcott from seeking a circuit judge seat during his elected term. The clause bars the lieutenant governor from holding another office until the end of his term.
In Pana Illinois on March 16, Mrs. Mary KE Welson obtained a divorce from Charles KE Welson and immediately married W. J. Reot of Chicago. She left the city before the decree was recorded.
Miss Mareia J. Dickinxen sister of Hon. Don M. Dickinson and Hon. Asa D. Dickinson died of paralysis Saturday at Don M Dickinson's home in Trenton a Detroit suburb.
The queen and King with Princess Victoria and other royals attended the Wild West show at Olympia. They viewed the Indian camp and met Colonel Cody and Major Burke. The royals were greeted by Rough Riders, and Indian children presented bouquets and clay pigeons. The king praised Baker's shooting skill.
Pittsburg recorder J. O. Brown, who had tendered his resignation to Governor Pennypacker, died suddenly at his home late yesterday afternoon.
Hammond Indiana March 16 Caldwell & Drake of this city secured the contract to erect the St Louis exposition agricultural building. The contract price was 720 940 dollars.
London promoter Whittaker Wright, tied to a string of collapsed companies with 1900 era London and Globe Finance Corp, is arrested in New York after arriving on the French line steamer La Lorraine. A woman passenger listed as Miss Browne traveled with him, initially presenting as his niece. Wright previously occupied a grand Park Lane residence, a Godalming estate, and a luxuriously appointed private yacht.

Hibbing Minnesota March 16 after rescuing his wife and infant from a blaze John McLaughlin woke to smoke and risked his life again to save his 6 year old son. Both died in the ruins of the learning reef tragedy.
A husband and father wrapped his wife and infant daughter in a blanket and carried them to a neighbor’s home. He then reentered the burning dwelling to save his seven year old son, but the roof collapsed. Father and son escaped to the door and were taken to hospital where both died.
Former Havana post director Rathbone, convicted under Palma amnesty, releases a public statement to Senator Platt urging investigation. He asserts U S authority and claims his Cuban trial violated treaty and U S justice standards.
The Polk County Republican convention in Des Moines on Saturday unified behind Governor Cummins and the state administration. Delegates approved the Cummins backed platform and named own delegates to the state convention. In Michigan, four miners were drowned at the Millie mine disaster with three others recovered.
In Lynchburg Virginia on March 16 a local engine struck a Chesapeake and Ohio freight train in the yard as dawn broke through heavy fog. Fireman Purvis and brakeman Moon were killed instantly while Conductor Glass and William McSherry died later in hospital. Engineer Monroe was severely injured but expected to recover.
Carbondale Illinois reports a four foot thick vein of silica discovered near the Mississippi river in Union county after rains washed away soil. The mineral is high quality and marketable. first vein found in southern Illinois. Ithaca NY notes Schuyter R Moore a Cornell junior in mechanical engineering died at his home in Prumansburg. his death brings Cornell typhoid toll to twenty four students.
Joliet Illinois March 16 Henry Schumm a rural mail carrier killed himself yesterday citing poor health and meager wages to cover living and medical bills.
Alice Roosevelt travels to Porto Rico to visit Governor Hunt's daughter, accompanied solely by a maid. Cleveland Republicans nominate a labor leader for president of the city council. Michigan defeats Illinois in the dual meet 42 to 20.
