Medill Editor Joseph Medill Dies in Texas Trip

Chicago March 16 special report: Joseph Medill editor of the Chicago Tribune died suddenly in San Antonio Texas this morning. He had been in Texas for two months for health reasons and was one of the best known newspaper men in the United States.

Iowa Independent Telephone Association Holds Third Convention

The third annual convention of the Iowa Telephone Association met in Des Moines to push uniformity among local toll firms and connect lines for long distance competition. Officers named were George M. Eady president, W. E. Durin vice president, F. W. Hill secretary, H. E. Teachout treasurer, with an executive committee including Kk Wells F K Hines N M McFarlin and C E B Bennett.

Daily Americans newspaper launches in Havana Iowa

The Daily Americans is a new daily paper in Havana published by Bisbee Pilling & Thompson. Sumner T. Bisbee serves as editor and director among six. The March 7 first issue is bright, newsy with advertising, aimed at Keokuk readers. Bisbee formerly captained the Keokuk company in the 50th Town.

Ohio's John Sherman, ill with pneumonia aboard the Paris, is improved after doctors in Martinique. The party of excursionists touring the West Indies was joined by Sherman’s close associates as his condition was watched by physicians from Paris and Duluth.

Congregation Disappears in Sharon declined toward past

Rushville Indiana March 16 The last material evidence of the Sharon Methodist congregation has disappeared with the sale of the church site to adjacent farmer David Powell The United Brethren moved the building to Henderson for public worship The Sharon church organized in 1833 and the 1818 building had once large membership now dwindled to vanish from Rush county gatherings.

Incendiary Fire Destroys Valuable Stallion Barn in Richland

A large barn near Richland Iowa burned last night after kerosene saturation. A prized stallion valued around 1900 was lost, and grain inside the barn perished. Sheriff Teeter and bloodhounds followed tracks found at daylight, signaling an active investigation into arson.

Fat man performer Alfred Daniels dies near Lehigh

Alfred Daniels a museum creak and former Barnum Bailey Fat Man died at his home two and a half miles west of Lehigh. He once weighed 5044 pounds and traveled fourteen years on the road amassing a fortune. By death his weight was 480 pounds. The report notes his circus career and recent residence on a fine farm near Webster City.
