Nine year old Margaret Tierney, missing from Kenosha Wisconsin since last Thursday, was returned to her father Edward Nerney by her uncle Detective Robert Blaney. A Chicago and Northwestern conductor found the frightened child and brought her to a police station where she was identified. The girl had been living with her uncle John Dunlop since her mother’s death a year ago. The family questions how she traveled to Chicago without money.
At the Lion at the Shoreham hotel Washington March 5 Speaker Cannon praised Japan saying they deserve to win and will live amid applause. The thirteenth annual Second Army Corps banquet drew more than 100 veterans with Cannon delivering Our Country as the keynote. He noted England and other nations influence US laws and culture but claimed the US has improved on them all.
Kuropatkin reports in a March 14 dispatch that a fierce assault on the Russian center south of Tie Pass was repulsed with over 1000 enemy dead remaining before the lines.

Illinois Attorney General Stead issues an official opinion stating coroners’ salaries must be fixed by county boards and that coroners are not entitled to all collected fees, only to the amount of their salary. The opinion responds to a letter from R K Leslie Baker, coroner of Peoria County.
Saginaw Mich March 15 George N Beattie a Pete Marquette brake man from Grand Rapids died at St Marys hospital from injuries after falling beneath train wheels at Merrill His legs were nearly cut off and his body mangled He was 47 and survived by a widow.
A settlement ends injunctions preventing Standard Oil from building a pipeline through Warren County without board of supervisors permission. The injunction will be dismissed and Standard Oil will resume work immediately.
Iowa Supreme Court rules that contracts to promote marriage for money are void as against public policy. The suit by Mrs. Mary Aldieger against the estate of William Grobe found such brokerage invalid. In other items, Jefferson County treasurer Dick was found dead in a Boulder hotel room, likely by suicide. Washington confirms Edwin Lima as solicitor of commerce and labor and Osterhaus as brigadier general, retired.
A fire destroyed the four story Vail hotel in Fly Minnesota killing porter George Byrnes of Ontonagon Michigan. The blaze displaced guests who were removed by raiders and many lost their personal effects. Loss is estimated at 35000 dollars with partial insurance.
In Kalamazoo Michigan on March 15 Sheri dan PF Master speaker of the house won the hard fought Republican nomination for circuit judge by a vote of 67 to 68 over Frank KE Knappen.
