The Ainsworth Fire Department responded to a blaze at the Bill Rarick farm five miles north of Ainsworth School at 2 30 PM Wednesday. A metal workshop and its contents were a total loss despite efforts. a tractor and tools were damaged. The fire likely started near the stove area and wind kept nearby buildings safe.

House Democratic leader William Gan non of Mingo introduced two bills and a legislative resolution to ease city finances. The package includes a gross receipts tax on utilities, state participation in water pollution abatement and sewer projects, and a central purchasing division for municipalities. The tax could raise about 5.80 per person from electric utilities and 3.04 from gas receipts. The pollution bill would cut city costs by shifting federal participation from 30 to 50 percent with state share at 25 percent, saving towns over 13 million for 146 projects (1969-1975). A $4 million biennial appropriation would fund state aid, while the resolution urges the executive council to enable bidding and volume purchasing to lower prices under existing intergovernmental cooperation laws.
