Professor Leo Thomas Dies at Knoxville in 60s
Professor Leo A. Thomas, geology chair at Iowa State University, died March 11 at Veterans Hospital Knox ville Ia after hospitalization since December 1962. Born December 23, 1917 in Logan Ia he earned degrees from the University of Iowa Missouri and served as a WWII Air Force pilot earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. He joined ISU in 1948 and became professor in 1956. Survived by his wife, son and four daughters, plus his mother and several siblings. Burial in Columbus Junction. Funeral services set for 11 a.m. Monday March 15 at Adams Funeral Home Ames.

Flood danger in northwest Iowa
Northwest Iowa faced rising flood risk as the Floyd River neared bankful below Merrill and was expected to crest over banks near Hinton and James with one to two feet of overflow. In Merrill to Sioux City, jamming was forecast. In the south, Army engineers plugged holes in the Boyer River near Missouri Valley while about 1100 people remained homeless. Janitors alert foils bomber at U.S. embassy housing Saigon
An alert Vietnamese janitor spotted a terrorist placing a time bomb against an American apartment house near Da Nang and alerted embassy security.
