Beverly Hills reports Will Rogers mocks how states push faster divorces. Arkansas offers three month guarantees including room and board. Nevada calls a special session and vows six week divorces and cross state competition, telegraph implied.
Des Moines March 12 A bill to require automobile drivers in Iowa to be licensed passed the state senate by 37 to 6. The measure would attach a driver license to next year’s motor car license with no extra charge, with 69 cents for nonlicense drivers. County treasurers would receive 25 cents. Senator Doran of Boone led the measure arguing reduced fatalities. A separate action moved to make military drill optional at the University of Iowa and Iowa State College, next Wednesday.
Des Moines reports Iowa land at its lowest since 1912 with a rush of cash sales from $100 to $250 per acre. Buyers flock from many counties and out of state, while officials foresee only a slow rise in farm land values over the coming years.
American Tobacco Company posts net earnings of 43.95 million after expenses and taxes. Federal taxes exceed 150 million. Earnings up 43 percent from 1929, 8.56 per share versus 5.76. Dividends set records with 29.30 million on common and 33.16 million on preferred.
The juniors claimed their sixth straight win beating the sophomores 47 to 7 in yesterday’s high school girls basketball tournament. The seniors defeated the freshmen 17 to 15 in the same round.
The Continental Construction company booster station for a 24 inch natural gas pipeline from Texas Panhandle to Chicago was awarded to Lanning Construction of Oskaloosa. The $200000 plus contract includes erection of compressor station several buildings and 8 miles of pipe with work starting immediately and about 200 men to be employed after ten days.
Oklahoma City dispatch reports Joe Davidson 55 held as suspect in the Virginia Brooks murder near San Diego California. Davidson arrested in Tulsa and brought for garage robbery inquiry. blood stained clothing linked to Virginia's description. San Diego police seek a man previously questioned who departed after Virginia's body was found near Camp Kearney.

Ray Handley a 35 year old rural mail carrier was found unconscious after kidnappers set his car ablaze on the Lincoln highway near Clare. An all night search ended at dawn with Handley on a rear porch. His wife remains in a Davenport hospital.
A Washington committee of community organizations prepared a formal application for a veterans hospital and will send it to General Frank T Hines in Washington The group claims Washington Iowa offers strong advantages and notes many cities in Iowa are seeking the hospital but Washington has an equal chance with them The sponsors cite Washington as the cleanest city in Iowa and say all facilities are available locally to support the project

Alvin Le Fever ten years old son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Le Fever died yesterday evening in the children's hospital at Iowa City where he had been taken for an operation for a mastoid trouble. He leaves his parents three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o clock in the Christian church at Kinross with burial in the Brethren cemetery near that place.

He accused Senators Caraway and Connally of offering no constructive plan and claimed Democrats seek to mislead the country and favor free trade harming farm prices.

Officers named include President Jesse Fussell Winfield Vice President Albert Chew Fontanelle Secretary C Nielsen Independence Treasurer Charles Bowen Rolfe Directors Wayne Waller Britt Max Nauke State Center and Chris Brogmus Saint Ansgar.
