Ainsworth Highland Community School District hosts a kindergarten round-up March 17 at 2 p.m. Joint County staff will conduct hearing and vision tests for attending children. Bring birth certificate to verify birth date. if a parent cannot attend, another caregiver may accompany the child.
A winter storm is expected tonight with rain or freezing rain and sleet, then snow on Wednesday. Temperatures will stay in the upper 20s to lower 30s with easterly winds 5 to 25 mph. Precipitation chances are 90 percent tonight and 80 percent on Wednesday.
In Friday action Judge Harlan W. Bainter gave Danny R. Nall a suspended 10 year prison term with 24 months probation for larceny. Michael A. Scott received a deferred judgment with 24 months probation and restitution for his night-time theft. Both men must pay court costs.

Des Moines Iowa opponents of a proposed anticorporation farming bill announce plans to water down the measure ahead of floor debate in the House. The act would bar corporate farming and require divestment of agricultural land by July 1 1980 while allowing small and family farm corporations to operate with amendments to ease concerns.
A chair tumbling from a pickup blamed for a three vehicle crash near the English River bridge south of Riverside. Damages estimated at 5500 and Anna Marie Beem of Humboldt injured but not seriously. Driver Luther John Blanton of North Liberty faces charges after the chair spill.
Rock Island Lines faces possible shutdown with next Monday looming as officials seek federal aid. Sen. James E. Pearson proposes ICC authority for rival railroads to operate Rock Island for up to 60 days until a merger can occur. ICC chairman George Stafford backs the Pearson plan and notes UP, SP, Rio Grande, and Santa Fe could jointly explore a group operation. Rock Island has shown willingness to be taken over by Union Pacific.
Washington High School proposes severing ninth grade credits from high school requirements to create three-year blocks. The plan would lower total credits from 34 to 30, add five required contacts per year, and allow early graduation only with extra work. part-time status could extend diploma timelines.
