Atlanta report notes a prisoner serving one year and one day for a bank forgery received a notice from the Georgia Tax Department stating he does not owe income tax on three forged checks he cashed last year because such income is nontaxable.
Col Prank H Schwable testified that solitary confinement constant interrogation and a fading sense of judgment led him to falsely confess to germ warfare charges. He described months of captivity and his 241 page explanation to the commandant as true to the best of his knowledge, noting he was not subjected to physical torture but endured a subtle coercion.
Washington Junior High will join the state wide Save The Children Jundle Week drive to gather worn clothing for needy children as part of the Twelfth Annual Children's Clothing Crusade. March 22 begins a five day effort with a national goal of three million pounds of wearable clothing.

Howard V. Gregory, owner of Des Moines Flying Service, aims to recover an $8,500 Piper Tri-Pacer stolen from Des Moines Municipal Airport. The FBI said the plane was locked and tied down at the old Olathe Municipal Airport after a fuel stop in Kansas City. Authorities hunt James Byrnes for the theft and two nearby holdups. a related car was found abandoned at the Des Moines airport Tuesday night. Gregory plans to fly to Olathe to retrieve the aircraft for FBI fingerprint checks.
W E Farrell county Red Cross fund and membership drive chairman reports 815 members and 1299.55 dollars turned in by volunteers in the county. He urges uncalled supply cards returned and all cards to be returned promptly. The blood program last year saw 392 pints donated on July 22 and 23 with many volunteers including doctors nurses and Gray Ladies contributing.
Four H clubs will participate in Rally Day at Wellman High School on June 8. County home economist Marvel Funk announced plans at a 4-H leaders meeting. The county camp runs June 13-15 at Lake Darling, and the girls convention follows June 16-19 at Iowa State College. Betty Smith and Irene Beavers assisted.
Secretary Benson said a new disposal plan for surplus butter may be announced before April 1 and could include a second price cut. He avoided details but emphasized fairness to taxpayers and consumers as the government holds about 309 million pounds of butter.

In Washington, House Democratic Leader Sam Rayburn predicts enough Republicans will back a $100 rise in personal income tax exemptions to secure House passage next week. Speaker Joseph Martin doubts this, saying Democrats may defeat the measure if united. The day follows approval of a separate excise tax cut bill needing Senate action and possible limited revenue impact.
Mrs. Nora Faulkner was riding with her son in law Phillip Kneen when their car was struck by a truck near West Chester. Also present were Mrs. Kneen and the Kneen children. X rays showed no serious injuries though all were badly shaken.

Bina Porter 12 of Ainsworth died Wednesday evening after a five year illness. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ainsworth United Presbyterian Church with burial in Ainsworth Cemetery. Born April 28 in Ainsworth to James and Martha Porter, she taught in Iowa and Colorado and was active in church work. survivors include a brother in Keota.
Gen Alfred Gruenther told Philadelphia Bulletin forum that Allied forces in Europe are strong enough now to deter a Soviet attack. He noted remaining limits but projected future atomic and missile capabilities within three to four years to reinforce the Allied position.
Clair A. Sodergren 62 died at his Salinas California home. He was Wayland postmaster from 1924 to 1956 and edited the Wayland News for years. He later ran a California cafe with his wife and left survivors including wife Eva and sons Richard and Robert. He belonged to Adoniram Lodge Wayland Chapter CES and the American Legion.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p m in the Crayne funeral home Mt Pleasant for Mrs Gladys Spencer 63 Burial will be in Ainsworth cemetery She died in Memorial hospital Mt Pleasant Wednesday Survivors include daughter Mrs Orville Foss of Mt Pleasant sister Mrs James Trotter of Des Moines and three grandchildren
Des Moines public schools resumed normal operation after a three day strike by about 155 janitors and bus drivers ended. Union and school board lawyers agreed to halt the walkout and discuss hours wages and working conditions before a court hearing set for Wednesday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary McConnell of Washington will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Ainsworth United Presbyterian church. Rev. Karl Megehelsen will officiate. Burial will be in the Ainsworth cemetery. Sherman’s Funeral Home handles arrangements. Mrs. McConnell died at her home Wednesday morning.
