A family suit bought for William Maillie at age 14 has served confirmations for John, Louis, and will be worn by Louis on Palm Sunday with Eddie expected next year. The Maillies attend Zion Lutheran church.

A blackbird has lived in the home of Miss Nellie Pinney, city librarian, for about 100 years. The bird, led by the so-called lite of Riley, fell from a nest in Pinney gardens when a fledgling and has been cared for by Miss Pinney ever since.

Mrs. Rebecca Sanford aged 85 died this afternoon at 2 15 at the home of Mr and Mrs Charles Beatty 111 East Washington Street after a two week illness. The cause is listed as undetermined.

Ted Brown led a stunt that earned an attendance prize won by Allan Campbell of Ottumwa. Milburn McKay directed a musical program and led group singing. Souvenir calendars from McCleery Calendar Co. and American Pearl Button Co. adorned each table with the caption Washington Y's Men's Club. A triangular shell lapel button attached to the calendar. The gathering was praised as one of the best of its kind in Washington.
Washington to host a State University of Iowa play on April 1 at the State theater. The production Under Gas Licht blends melodrama and comedy with a cast of about forty from the university. Washington County Alumni association sponsors the event with tickets at 75 cents in the parlor and 26 cents in the gallery, sale starting March 23.

James Swift of Washington R. R. 1 recalls Abraham Lincoln's funeral car passing through Oneida Illinois where he lived at the time. In 1887 he and his wife moved to Jennings Kansas and lived a few months in a sod house which Swift built with his own hands.

Rodney Pace a 16 year old high school student confessed to killing his 17 year old brother Ogden and wounding his 11 year old sister Thyrza after a shootout in a Dubuque yard. He fled through a window leaping to escape police and later admitted the act but refused to state motives.

London March 11 The British government debated a possible compromise to ease tensions with Germany and France. Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin led a cabinet meeting at 10 Downing Street for about an hour and ten minutes before Foreign Minister Anthony Eden arrived from Paris.
Strasbourg reports France has fully manned its invincible border fortifications for the first time with about 40 000 to 60 000 troops. The last contingent arrived today and the big parade occurred with notable order and secrecy.
