WAPELLO Iowa several thousand acres of low lying farmland were flooded after an ice jam on the Iowa River backed up behind the Iowa 99 bridge. Two families were evacuated and more may move if the cross levee fails. Sheriff Ralph McDowell said the jam extended four to five miles and efforts to dynamite a hole in the levee to drain water were overtaken by rising floodwaters.

Washington Junior High School will host the annual junior high band festival on Tuesday March 16 with bands from Mid Prairie Mt Pleasant and Washington schools.
