House Ways and Means Rejects Pay-as-You-Go Tax Plan
Washington March 9 The House Ways and Means Committee tentatively rejected a treasury backed pay-as-you-go plan for 1942 income taxes in the first bracket and also rejected applying 1941 rates to 1942 payments. Chairman Robert Doughton hopes for final action this afternoon while one proposal remains to forgive half of 1943 taxes and double 1942 and 1943 taxes in the last six months of the year.

William Henry Watson, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Watson of a farm near Anita, has not been heard from since Feb 26 after leaving home in a blue 1932 Model A coupe with red wire wheels. Iowa license 10-2624 and new 1943 tag No. 165-331. Dee Young Watson is 6 feet 10 inches, 186 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Parents report no idea of his destination or reason for leaving.

Air corps to open second pre meteorology school at Iowa
Capt J P Galvin announced a second pre meteorology school will open at the State University of Iowa on May 15. East Lawn dormitory will be vacated in five weeks to house 300 cadets for Class B meteorology training. 2000 Bushels of Corn Burned in Farm Fire
Stringtown man Kilmer Roth suffered a heavy loss when a corn crib and its contents burned. About 2000 bushels of corn and several hundred bushels of oats were destroyed. Neighbor Raymond Rich woke the Roth family near 1 30 AM as the roof collapsed preventing full salvage. Cause unknown though Roth suspects a hog waterer. Insurance covered the building and grain.
