Washington High School concert band of about 70 members toured Tuesday in three schools. The group traveled by two chartered buses, started in Washington, and performed at Sigourney, Oskaloosa, and Albia High Schools. Directed by Melvin A. Flames force families from homes at Ross Co. store
In Oelwein Iowa a basement fire at the Ross Co store forced several families from second floor apartments. The blaze damaged the rear of the first floor and destroyed a large quantity of women's ready to wear stock. Officials warned heavy damage. the store planned to reopen after remodeling. Firemen attributed the fire to a short in a transformer.
