Coast Guard plane missing with six aboard near Florida gulf
Six Coast Guard crew members are presumed lost after a Grumman amphibian aircraft disappeared in fog over the northeast Gulf of Mexico near Carrabelle Florida. A search by two Coast Guard planes, two cutters and a patrol boat engaged ships coast to assist. The missing aircraft reportedly received a distress call from the 40 foot fishing vessel Flying Fish and was seen taking on water before a loud crash was heard. Visibility in the search area was described as absolute zero due to dense fog lingering over the coast.

In Ottumwa Iowa a three story building housing Gil's Surplus was wrecked by a fire that began in the rear and engulfed the structure by 4 a.m. Firefighters protected a neighboring Osco Drug store with a firewall and no injuries were reported. Alarm came in at 1:47 a.m. from Robert Yoder and Ted Gilliam. Abe Gil owner is vacationing in California. First two floors and part of the basement held merchandise. the third floor was empty. Cause under investigation.

Retired farmer perishes in Iowa house fire
ELEADER Iowa UPI reports a retired farmer in his 70s, Frank Miller, was found burned to death in the kitchen chair of his gutted home just north of ELEADER on Saturday night. Investigators suspect an overheated stove caused the blaze.

Girl wounded in mysterious shooting in Renwick
In Eagle Grove Iowa Renwick teenager Marilyn Rapp 19 was shot in the shoulder Saturday night by a .22 caliber bullet. Police say a slug passed through the rear of the youths car and lodged in the back of the front seat. The medical examiner cited wounds to the back and upper right arm.

Nine Die in Iowa Traffic Toll Rises
Nine people lost their lives in Iowa traffic accidents over the weekend, raising the 1967 toll to 102. Among the dead were 3-month-old Diana Schwartztrauber of Des Moines, fatally injured when her father's car hit a utility pole while avoiding a dog, and parents Roy and Mrs Schwartztrauber in critical condition.
