Health care plan for the elderly moves to draft stage
Washington UPI report states House Ways and Means technicians began drafting a broader health care program for the elderly than President Johnson proposed. The plan would merge compulsory hospital and nursing home insurance under Social Security with a voluntary coverage option for other medical costs. Chairman Wilbur Mills said a bill drafting was ordered, with a majority of the committee ready to back it when voted, possibly next week.

King and followers plan Alabama rights march
King and aides in Atlanta plan to decide if federal marshals are sought for a planned March from Selma to Montgomery. A Birmingham white march is planned at the Dallas County Courthouse in Selma to protest racial discrimination. King met President Johnson for 90 minutes to discuss voting rights and other issues. Elsewhere in Camden, Negroes were barred from a courthouse march and from an all white restaurant. Sheriff Clark accused King of a vendetta and recalled a 1963 incident in Selma. A separate suit in Columbia seeks to block South Carolina tuition grants aiding segregated schools. A County Conservation Board will meet March 10 at 7 pm.

Doctor charged with drug sales in Des Moines
