A. P. report from Ames notes that 94 percent of Iowa State College home economics graduates since 1931 are employed. The personnel division survey counters claims of a broad employment crisis among Ames graduates.
Cedar Rapids city health department quarantined six thousand eight hundred eighty-two measles cases in February. The report notes nearly 100 new cases over the weekend.
Ames Iowa 151 farm musicians from 33 counties rehearse for an opera in June The Bohemian Girl to be performed by farm talent during the state girls 4-H club convention in Ames.
Louis Breese, a farmer hunter in Storm Lake, shot a wolf he mistook for a stone on the snow. He collected a $10 bounty from the county auditor for the sixth time this year.
Mrs. John Gage, a farm woman from ten miles southeast of Manchester, received Pasteur treatment after being attacked Saturday by a fox infected with rabies. Her husband, Mr. Gage, killed the animal with his bare hands and was not bitten.
Harvey McKnight aged 54 was stabbed in the throat at his home on the Missouri river bank and crawled several blocks to seek help. He was in serious condition in a local hospital.
A public celebration was planned in Creston to mark Summit Lake overflowing its spillways after a severe drought. Snow and rain have filled the reservoir to about 290 million gallons, triggering expected hourly overflow.
Automobile owners without 1935 plates may drive until May 1 under a new ruling from Lew Wallace secretary of the state motor vehicle department. The policy does not cancel the $1 monthly penalty added to the license plate fee.

Waverly residents recount three veterans from Bremer county who served in the Civil War. John Chadwick of Tripoli is the last survivor in the county, with two others enlisted elsewhere: M. I. Stebbins of Waverly and George Vandewalker of Headlyn. All are about 9 years old.

Commander Barham said the VFW asked for invite as Kalona Legion holds its first Thursday monthly meeting. bad weather previously prevented attendance.
Mayor Lloyd Lytle and council members announce plans to seek re election at the March 25 municipal election. Petitions circulate for names to appear on the ballot with filing due by Saturday night. Other candidates may enter this week as petitions go to the city clerk.
Two masked suspects forced O J Miller state liquor store manager to open the safe and fled with $1000. No liquor was taken. The incident occurred in New Philadelphia Ohio. Police searched the area for the robbers.
Chicago March 6 USP Police Captain Joseph Palczynski was killed and bailiff Philip Brankin fatally wounded as members of a Negro cult rioted in the women s court on the ninth floor of the central police building. A 75 man police force battled the crowd. 25 Negroes were arrested after the riot was quelled.
Washington Chamber of Commerce plans a dinner meeting on Thursday evening to discuss the federal housing program impact on Washington. Builders and trades such as carpenters masons plasterers painters are invited. tickets from Clarence Logan or Dave Elder. An out of town speaker close to the housing administration will address the group. L Ek Wilson chairs the local housing project committee with Dave Elder Roger Sherman and Charles Biklin on the ticket committee.
Nine representatives of the Better Housing campaign visit Washington to collect information on remodeling needs and local housing conditions. Sponsored by the Federal Housing Administration with Chamber of Commerce help, the effort aims to create jobs and improve homes through FHA financing.
Rotary members welcomed fifteen former members in a reunion styled homecoming at the club. Present members and alumni shared fellowship as several past Rotarians from Washington attended. A short program featured remarks by a few elders and a musical interlude by Paul Campbell on trombone with Helen Me.

The 93 year old former Supreme Court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes is gravely ill and sinking toward death. Physicians say recovery seems unlikely as he remains partly conscious under medical care and an oxygen tent. A separate item notes a Klamath Falls baby born with two lower teeth and expected early weaning.
In a January 1932 visit from India to Athens, an American official recalls speaking with Eleftherios Venizelos, the renowned Greek statesman known for his wit and pivotal role alongside Wilson during the Versailles era. He notes Venizelos’ enduring influence amid a modern Greek scene.
Dr Walter A Jessup of the Carnegie Foundation compares the old rah rah campus figure to a vanished era and predicts a shift to serious minded students. He warns that shrinking endowments reduced tuition and dwindling bequests threaten hundreds of U S colleges with public funding already subsidizing more than 100 institutions.

The senate appropriations committee approved a $4.88 billion work relief bill and sent it back to the senate after a brief session. The McCarran amendment failed in committee, 12 to 12, despite debate over the provision earlier. Senator Pat McCarran of Nevada had sought to offer the amendment on the floor.

The world day of prayer for missions will be observed Friday March 8 in Washington with a 2:00 to 3:00 PM service at St Pauls Evangelical Church. Local women from missionary societies organize the event under national denominational bodies. Miss Friesen will speak as part of the program, sharing experiences from India.
Darrel Brown formerly of Centerville and Perry Iowa becomes owner of The Grill the new restaurant on the northeast corner of the square. He chose Washington after a year of study and plans to reside here permanently at the Colenso Hotel. He is single and attends the Methodist church.
