Washington marks McKinley’s inauguration with a grand parade and Court of Honor. Notables from Govs Odell to Yates attend while veterans groups escort from White House to Capitol and reassemble for review.
Washington hosts the inaugural ball in the pension office auditorium marking the culmination of the inaugurations. President and Mrs. McKinley lead the grand march as crowds mingle with notable citizens amid lavish decorations and electrical effects. Police guard entrances while the Marine band and a 100-piece orchestra perform before the presidential party arrives at 9 30 p m.
An Omaha World-Herald report says Pat Crowe, one of the alleged abductors of Id ward Cudahy Jr., sent a long letter asserting innocence and accusing injustice. Police Chief Donahue regards the letter as genuine and notes it echoes Crowe's past statements.

In Frankfort Indiana on March 4 Thomas Spurgeon a wealthy 50 year old farmer faced heartbreak as Ellen Rex a 71 year old widow wed Samuel Dyper 74 in Lafayette after Rex’s children opposed their marriage and a guardian had once been appointed. Spurgeon learned of the ceremony when Dyper produced the marriage certificate at Spurgeon’s attempt to claim his bride.
Maud Gonne and John Daly address 2,000 Irish in Central Music Hall for Emmet anniversary. Gonne urges open rebellion as remedy. Daly criticizes parliamentary agitation and calls for arming Ireland to prepare for war. Event organized by Chicago Irish Nationalists.
