Bluefield West Virginia March 3 Six bodies were recovered by rescue workers after yesterday’s Weyancke coal and coke explosion at Arista. Twenty three trapped miners were saved with light injuries. Five miners remain missing and are presumed dead.
Viola Dana, motion picture actress, has fully recovered from appendicitis surgery at a local hospital in Los Angeles and returned to her home. She expects to resume screen work around March 20.
During a sale today Malcolm McKinno of Rock Island Illinois, formerly of Rockford, long associated with Davenport newspapers, purchased the semi weekly Fulton Journal of Fulton Illinois from A W Bastian longtime publisher of the paper.

The case concerns the deadly August 24 slayings of Watt Daniels and Thomas Richards of Mer Rouge. Coco is to be accompanied by George S Given and later other staff members.
President Harding may nominate a successor to Charles B. Warren as ambassador to Tokyo before adjournment. A White House announcement revealed a selected candidate and that Japan has confirmed his acceptability, though the name was not disclosed.
Des Moines police report a burglary at the general store and post office in Cooper near Jefferson Creene county last night. Officers believe the Cooper bandits may have stolen a car in Des Moines yesterday based on matching descriptions.

Mrs. Paul Eberle of Des Moines will face trial in Oskaloosa for the murder of her husband near the city on January 2. The case was moved up from Tuesday after another case was dropped from the calendar.
L. L. Ducbury, attorney for Karl Thorst, asked the governor to commute a death sentence to life imprisonment for the Fort Madison murder case. The state asked time to review the arguments and a Monday hearing on the plea was noted by the governor's office.

Des Moines reports the Fort Madison prison chair industry has grown into a $500,000 annual business housed in a new five story concrete factory. About 200 prisoners cut and finish dining and arm chairs, earning $18 to $30 monthly, with profits returning to the state board to fund institutions. output runs about 40 dozen chairs daily and sales extend from Burlington to Philadelphia and Los Angeles at $36 to $40 per dozen.
