United Press International reports Iowa breaks sub zero chill as southerly winds lift temperatures toward 30 in the southwest and the upper teens in the northwest. The Weather Bureau forecasts a thaw in the southwest with a storm along the Iowa Minnesota border bringing clouds tonight through Sunday and possible flooding from rapid snow melt. Snow depths vary statewide with Spencer at 25 inches and other cities ranging from 6 to 24 inches. compacting accounts for reduced snow depth at Spencer.

He joins Keith L Vetter in seeking the nomination as Rep Richard L Stephens leaves the seat to run for state senate. Schnoebelen, a cattle raiser with a Riverside locker plant and hatchery, is a longtime local businessman and father of three married daughters. Vetter, a Washington businessman, operates Culligan Soft Water Service Co. in the area.

Three buses will carry 95 instrumental music students from the Washington High School to Ft. Madison for the Southeast Six Conference band festival. Alan Bergstrom, instrumental music director, said departures occur early Thursday morning with a return that night. Each band will perform for a judge in the morning, followed by a massed rehearsal in the afternoon and a final massed program in the evening at Ft. Madison High School.

Effie Hull Israel, 83, of three miles east of Wellman, died March 2, 1962 at Sunnyhaven Rest Home in Washington after a lingering illness. Funeral 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd Latta. burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Born November 10, 1878 in Washington County, she was daughter of Horatio and Mary Squire Hull and married Samuel E. Israel in Chicago on July 20, 1920. He died December 26, 1951. Survived by niece Mrs David Bryant of Long Beach Calif and two grand-nieces Penelope Ann Bryant and Mrs William Tyra, both of Long Beach.

Washington city officials announced a crackdown to remove stored vehicles from streets. Cars parked long term must be moved by Thursday evening March 8 with a 48 hour limit thereafter or be towed and owners fined.
