Veterans win their fight to escort the President on Monday
Washington March 2. The inaugural committee and war veterans reach a compromise over parade precedence. Local and visiting Grand Army veterans will form the honorary escort from the White House to the Capitol on March 4 but will not participate in the afternoon parade returning to the White House. Tragedy at Warn Farm Ends in Mass Destruction
Henry Warn, a German farmer near Denison Iowa, killed his son William and then set fire to the farm buildings including the house cattle sheds corn cribs hog house and barn before locking himself in the burning barn where his headless charred remains were found. Neighbors shouted to him but he fired at them and continued the destruction leaving no known motive and suggesting temporary insanity. He arranged the blaze with wagons and water hydrant damaged to ensure total loss.
